Industrial heaters are devices that take energy from one source, such as fuel or electricity and convert it to thermal energy for use as heat in a system, process or source of warmth for people. They come in different designs with different internal components and working principles with the different types being better suited to different applications. Industrial heaters like the Broughton EAP Mighty Heat range that rely on electric energy to produce this thermal energy are among the most widely available and commonly used heaters on the market, they are, not surprisingly, generally referred to as electric fan heaters.
In general electric heaters feature a heating element that generates this thermal energy by using the properties of resistance when an electric current is passed through it. They can be found in both single-phase and three-phase systems, with the three-phase types being more commonly used across many industries. Single phase heaters tend to be found in smaller commercial or domestic settings, although units like the FF3 are also regularly seen in industrial applications too.
Three-phase industrial heaters feature components that connect a three-phase voltage source to a switchable heating load. All Broughton industrial fan heaters, both single-phase and three-phase industrial heaters, use alternating current, better known as AC. Three-phase industrial heaters are seen as much more efficient and faster at transferring heat than single-phase systems. Additionally, they offer much greater outputs as there are much higher current ratings available on three-phase supplies. A single phase heater will generally only offer a maximum of 3kW heat, whereas our 3 phase heaters are available in up to 80kW.
Specifications & Common Terminology
Heating capacity:
This is a measure of the maximum amount of heat that the three-phase industrial heater can generate. It is usually expressed in kilowatts (kW), unlike other types of heaters which might use British Thermal Units (BTU) instead.
Maximum operating temperature:
Can be a couple of things but commonly describes either the maximum temperature that the heater’s sheath is designed to handle, or, more likely with fan heaters though it is the maximum temperature the fan can be used in.
Input AC voltage:
This is the magnitude of AC voltage needed for the three-phase industrial heater to function. Generally any type of fan heater requiring a voltage of greater than 230V will be a 3 phase heater.
Sleeve material:
Different materials suit different applications, but options include brass, aluminium, copper, fluoropolymer, iron, stainless steel, nickel alloy, steel, polyimide and even rubber. Watt density: This is a measure of how much power the element surface will be exposed to and is used as a measure of how quickly the three-phase industrial heater can transfer heat to the heated surface.
Heater type:
There are many common types of heater, these include air, band, ceramic fibre, cast-in, duct, immersion and forced air heaters. Some heaters are even made for highly specialist applications and therefore come with additional features and capabilities. A prime example of a specialist heater would be an explosion-proof industrial heater, which is designed to prevent explosion in hazardous environments such as sugar processing plants, paint processes and chemical storage.
Applications
Three-phase industrial heaters are powerful heaters that are some of the most widely used tools in the industry. From small garages to storage warehouses, factories, super markets to events and building sites, 3 phase heaters are an essential part of the way companies provide heat for any manor of processes of staff comfort.
